I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a tough year so far. We all hit the pause button in March and shifted to work from home, study from home and stay at home while adjusting to new health & safety guidelines. We’ve now entered summer and if you’re like me, you’re looking to spend much more time outside.
Is Your Outdoor Space Ready?
Is this the year you create your dream outdoor living room? Or do you simply want to give your outdoor furniture an update? For many of us, creating a peaceful, low key environment is at the top of our “To-Do” list.
Whatever your goals are for your outdoor area, one key element will play a large part in your finished look.
What is it?
Outdoor fabrics.
The Latest in Outdoor Fabrics
Traditionally, outdoor fabrics have been rather limited. They used to be available only in basic colors and patterns which didn’t offer much flexibility. And you probably remember that stiff, rough feeling when you sat down on outdoor furniture cushions, right?
All of that has changed with new fabric technologies!
New performance fabrics are built to stand up to environmental challenges – from sun fade to family. These fabrics are now soft enough to use inside as well as outside and they are colorfast. The new outdoor fabric lines offer everything from the softness of velvet to the casual elegance of boucle or the look of hand-woven linen and silk slub textiles. With budget-friendly options and increased durability, you’re no longer limited to traditional outdoor styles.
Outdoor Fabric Trends for 2020
Last year’s patterns were more modern, with large scale foliage prints and contemporary plaids. This year, I’ve been noticing a new trend in the latest fabric and wallpaper styles. There’s a softer, low-key modern look available now, giving us the option to update our outdoor cushions with a more serene Zen feel.
Instead of the fun, vibrant tropical prints and parrots from past years, the trend has shifted to softer, more relaxed colors. (Stop by and check out the latest outdoor fabrics.)
For 2020 Pantone Color of the Year – Classic Blue is a soothing, classic color, perfect for adding an elegant calm to your outdoor cushions. Pantone says it “brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge.” And I think we can all use a little of that!
Get Ready to Relax!
Having outdoor fabric choices that stand up to the sun – and family fun – in stylish, soft, small-scale modern designs is an exciting change in outdoor living. These new performance fabrics are sure to inspire your summertime outdoor space planning!
